Semi-Frameless Shower Door Installation in Calhoun, GA

A semi-frameless shower door uses a light frame or header on some edges and leaves the door itself mostly open glass. You get much of the clean, modern look of frameless glass at a lower price, with a frame that adds support. What makes a door semi-frameless?

Semi-frameless systems usually combine thinner tempered glass than a fully frameless door with a header, wall channels, or a frame around the fixed panels. That extra support lets the glass be lighter, which is part of why semi-frameless doors cost less than frameless ones. The door edges are typically left unframed, so the enclosure still looks open.

Where semi-frameless works well

  • Standard alcove showers where you want an upgrade from a fully framed door without the cost of frameless glass.
  • Tubs, including sliding doors with a top track and minimal frame.
  • Openings that need extra support, such as walls that cannot easily carry the weight of heavy frameless glass.
  • Hall bathrooms and rentals where durability and budget matter most.

Frameless, semi-frameless, or framed?

Frameless glass gives the cleanest look and is the most popular choice for a primary bathroom remodel. A framed door is the most budget-friendly and works well on tubs and standard alcoves. Semi-frameless sits in between on both price and look. If you are not sure, send photos and we can recommend what suits the opening.

How installation works

  2. Measurement. We measure the finished opening in person and check that the walls are plumb.

  4. Installation. We install the frame and glass, adjust the door, and seal it to help keep water in the shower.

Semi-frameless shower door questions

Is a semi-frameless door cheaper than frameless?

Usually, yes. The glass is lighter and the frame provides support, so the materials cost less. The final price depends on the size of the opening, the layout, and the hardware finish.

Does semi-frameless glass leak?

The frame and channels help seal the fixed panels, and the door uses seals and a sweep. As with any shower door, the shower head position and curb slope also matter, and we plan the layout with both in mind.

What finishes are available?

Common frame and hardware finishes include polished chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, and brushed gold.

Can a semi-frameless door replace my old framed door?

Yes. We remove the old door and frame and install the new system in the same opening. See shower door replacement for what to expect.
